GrubRate (“GrubRate,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by Gruvvy, LLC, the company that owns and operates grubrate.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors and registered users worldwide, including residents of the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and California.

1. Who we are

Gruvvy, LLC is the data controller responsible for personal information collected through grubrate.com. For any privacy questions, contact us at privacy@grubrate.com.

2. Information we collect

  • Account data: name, email address, password (hashed), and profile details you choose to add.
  • Content you submit: dish ratings, reviews, photos, restaurant/dish entries, and other contributions.
  • Usage data: pages viewed, searches, votes, device type, browser, language, approximate location (from IP), and timestamps.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: small files stored on your device used for authentication, preferences, and — only with your consent — analytics.

3. How we use your information

  • To operate, secure, and improve GrubRate.
  • To authenticate you and maintain your session.
  • To display your ratings, reviews, and contributions.
  • To respond to your requests and send service-related notices.
  • To analyze usage and improve our features (only where permitted).
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

4. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

We process personal data on the following bases:

  • Contract: to provide the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests: to keep GrubRate secure, prevent abuse, and improve the product.
  • Consent: for non-essential cookies and analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation: where required by applicable law.

5. Cookies

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to run the site (e.g., session and CSRF protection). With your consent, we may also use analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. You can accept or reject non-essential cookies from the banner shown on your first visit, and change your choice at any time by clearing site data in your browser.

6. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Service providers that host, secure, or support the site, bound by appropriate confidentiality and data-processing terms.
  • Legal authorities when required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
  • Successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

7. International data transfers

GrubRate is operated from the United States. If you access the site from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the U.S. and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. You may request deletion of your account at any time.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal information.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing).
  • Receive a portable copy of your data.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@grubrate.com. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

10. Children

GrubRate is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy and revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes may also be communicated by email or an in-app notice.
